- In a sentence or two, introduce you to our readers and tell us something we wouldn’t know just by googling you.
I am 37 years old, have been djing for 25 years, have been signed to the ninja tune label for 12 years & play many kinds of music as a DJ. I like to dj for the whole night & create a very special atmosphere.
- 2009 marks the ten year anniversary of the release of “Keep It Unreal”. What does that mean for you ?
It means 10 years of my ‘keep it unreal’ residency in Manchester, an an excuse for a fantastic birthday party! it was also a good time to re-release the album with some unreleased material form the late 1990’s. it also makes me feel old !
- What sort of stuff have you been working on recently ? How do you occupy your time while you’re travelling on tour ?
This year, i have been busy with my tea company, ‘Make Us A Brew’, plus I have been working on some deep house with Kaidi Tatham for the Prime Numbers label, and also working on music with Zed Bias. I am also busy with my own new music, getting ideas & arrangements together for the studio. As for touring, i try & write music & do re-edits while i am travelling, and enjoy the places that i visit (especially restaurants & records shops!)
- What was the record that made you want to DJ ?
‘Clear’ by Cybotron. i heard it on an electro mix album in the early 80’s & it inspired me to try DJing myself.
- Last band / track you felt in love with ?
Kyle Hall ‘The Perfekt Sin’
- What’s your favorite classic soundtrack ?
Herbie Hancock ‘the spook that sat behind the door’
- There are some great second hand vinyl stores in the UK, do you still buy old vinyl ?
Yes ! we have many good shops in manchester, plus one of the great things about touring is going to all those amazing second hand record stores.
- What’s the future of music industry according to you ? Do you actually live well from your music ?
The future is challenging, but it is great to see a lot of good independent music being released. The current economic climate & changes in digital media & the way that people buy & listen to music means that you have to be creative with your marketing as well as your art. I live ok from music, but you definitely have to work a lot harder these days.
- Imagine you could spend one day in somebody else’s body. Who would you choose ?
Pharaoh Sanders
- A word in french..?
Pneu !
