  • In a sentence or two, introduce you to our readers and tell us something we wouldn’t know just by googling you.

We are Crystal Fighters.  We make Basque folk-influenced music with no boundaries and lots of acoustic instruments.  Gilbert and Sebastian have been friends since they were 8, and currently live together with Graham, a newer but no less cherished friend, in an increasingly freezing warehouse in London.

  • What sort of stuff have you been working on recently ? How do you occupy your time while you’re travelling on tour ?

Our whole minds are dedicated to making our album at the moment.  Whenever we are at home we are working on arrangements and recording for the album, and on the road we use our laptops turn them into the genre-defying pop assault that will be the album.

  • We loved your remix of Pony Pony Run Run - “Hey You”. Any other remixes that you have been working on? What artists would you like to remix?

We just finished a remix for Two Door Cinema Club which is featured on their Kitsune single release.  We love working with great melodic vocal tracks with great lyrics (so often they aren’t) so remixing someone like the Mayer Hawthorne, The XX or My Tiger My Timing would be fun.

  • What’s the future of music industry according to you ? Do you actually live well from your music ?

Remixes and live shows is where the solid money is at for us, so we make sure to put time into those so we can pay the bills and let people know who we are.  But the real challenge is making the music that will be the soundtrack to the future however it is sold, or stolen or listened to.

Last band / track you felt in love with ?

It’s not a new tune, but I was recently shown Easy Lee by Riccardo Villalobos and I think it is an unlikely and absolutely brilliant techno song.

  • Now some quick-fire questions: Best…

- Album ever made?
Madvillainy by Madvillain
- Best place you have ever played?
Telefonique Arena in Madrid to 4000 people was pretty special
- Best classic soundtrack ever?
I’m not a big soundtrack buff but I saw the film Zodiac recently and the soundtrack to the that was pretty awesome.

  • What’s next on your agenda?

We’re playing Glasgow, Manchester (twice), Paris, Bilbao and Rennes before this time next week.  Thanks for reminding me.

  • Finally, A word in french..?

Zut!
