On a trouvé plus rafraichisant qu’un smoothie Banana Rainbow, plus fonky qu’un George Benson fumé au Rhum Charette, plus humide que les bas fonds du Dépot un soir de juillet, plus ensoleillé que l’archipel San Andres… Imaginez-vous quelque part entre Brasilia et la Havane, le sound system local, la moiteur & les chicas qui vont avec…. ça ressemblerait à ce manbo jambo remix de Genghis & Riva Starr qui tropicalisent sans pitié ce lumineux track de Major Lazor… Calienteeeee

DJ and producer Erol Alkan presented last saturday the first edition of his 6 mix residency on BBC Radio, playing an eclectic selection of electronically influenced music (featuring big tunes from Cassius, Vitalic, Pilooski and Laurent Garnier), from future disco to psychedelia, alongside hot new reworkings direct from his studio in North London. Bonus : a 30 minutes mix from Erol himself, showcasing the tunes he’s playing in clubs and at festivals all over the world. WICKEDDD
The founder of London’s legendary Trash night at The End, Erol was a key player in the electroclash movement in the early part of this century. More recently he has produced albums by the Mystery Jets and Late of the Pier, whilst his remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Zero has been hailed as one of the biggest indie-dance crossovers of 2009.

Check out Tiga’s mix recorded for Clashmusic recently… a full of sleazy electro and dark house vibes, and also the perfect audio example of his own finely-crafted electronic style. Towards the second half of the mix, things also take a distinctly techno turn, resulting in some quite superb moments – dirty bass, glitches and skewered vocal loops.
Overall, the mix covers a twisted variety of bases, from Zombie Nation (with whom Mr Tiga produces music with under the ZZT moniker, don’t you know) to French Ed Banger talent Mr Oizo to several choice belters from Tiga himself, including a few tracks from recent second album Ciao!
